Sumeet Sud shares news of Australian Fire Toll on Wildlife

The latest spate of Australian bush fires had consumed about 15.6 million acres of land. Some endangered animals are potentially gone forever. Australia already had the highest rate of extinction in the world.The most recent fires have affected an estimated half-billion animals throughout the country. Some of the rare animals like dunnarts, mouse-like insect-eating rarities were killed by flames and smoke, and some will die later due to hunger and loss of shelter. The long-nosed potoroo, a type of tuffle-eating is of particular concern. In the intervening weeks, and about 25,000 koalas have died in the fires. Other endangered listed animals who have died are yellow-stripped skink a type of lizard, Regent honeyeater bird, silver-headed antechinus, hip-pocket frogs and other species.
